About Amy Lawson PLLC

With over 18 years experience in working with adolescents, students, new parents, and adults, Amy uses a strengths-based perspective to help her clients work through transitions and new challenges.

Amy obtained her MSW from Wayne State University in 2008. Amy has worked in Community Mental Health centers as well as in traditional outpatient settings. She is a LMSW (licensed masters social worker), and holds certifications in drug and alcohol counseling (CAADC), perinatal mental health (PMH-C), and Parental Leave Coaching (R-PLC). Amy works collaboratively with clients to develop treatment goals, and seeks to provide clients with tools to improve functioning. Amy utilizes techniques from cognitive behavioral and acceptance and commitment therapy. For new parents seeking help with the adjustment to parenthood, Amy also has a background in childbirth and newborn education (Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator) as well as being a Bringing Baby Home educator.

Before becoming a social worker, Amy obtained a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Michigan. Amy enjoys working with clients from diverse backgrounds, and works to understand client challenges within a cultural context. Amy is licensed to provide therapy services in both Michigan and Ohio. Parental Leave Coaching can be provided throughout the United States and beyond.

When not working, Amy is a parent to an active tween and enjoys spending time outdoors running, swimming and doing triathlon.
